Bless This House
Where there’s love at home.
Bless this house, O Lord we pray,
Make it safe by night and day
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie overall
Bless this door that it may prove,
Ever open, to joy and love
Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's Heavenly light,
Bless the hearth, the painting there,
With smoke ascending like a prayer!
Bless the folk who dwell within,
Keep them pure and free from sin
Bless us all that we may be,
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee
Bless us all that one day we may dwell,
O Lord! With Thee!
There is love at home.
Throughout my life, growing up and performing on the road, I’ve had the great privilege of traveling all around the world. It’s a joy I’ve shared over the years with my own children as they one by one, joined this unique lifestyle of mine with its countless airports, weeks of riding tour buses, staying in hotels both large and small, and as they would say to me, always finding in all of it, “our home.” I learned to make my “home” wherever my family happened to be, from my own sweet mother’s wisdom. She could make any tour bus or crowded hotel room into a little heaven on earth for her children, playing games, initiating teaching moments, and making it literally a “temporary” home for us. I selfishly wanted very much to sing this simple hymn for my amazing mother, who along with my devoted and loving father, despite our unique circumstances of being childhood entertainers, made the words of this songs an absolute reality for my brothers and me. The result for us was “Love at Home”, interspersed with “Bless This House,” and it was done through my great parent’s constant efforts. - Marie Osmond |
